
The "Norman Salvensen" a Tyne class lifeboat named after the late ship owner, one of three lifeboats bought with his bequest, the boat built at a cost of £500,000.00 was christened in Wick on the 16th of September 1988.
The Norman Salvensen has seen many successful launches including one in which the Coxswain Walter Mcphee and his crew received the RNLI thanks on Vellum for the assistance rendered to the P&O ferry "St Rognvald".
In 1992 Coxswain Mcphee and his crew recieved a second thanks on vellum for the rescue of the crew of fishing boat "Wave Dancer"
